My Vanity Project was formed in 2006 as an English-Dutch trio based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Known for their uniquely angular yet undeniably poppy sound, My Vanity Project blended Joep Rutten’s bass—ranging from melodic to outright pounding—with the tight, driving drums of Matt Cotton. Over this rhythmic foundation, singer and guitarist Karl Griffiths wove jagged, catchy guitar lines and layered his sharp, witty, and alienated vocals, creating a sound that was both distinctive and infectious.

My Vanity Project released their debut album, A Father, a Son, and an Idiot, in January 2009. Well-received by audiences, the band continued to build momentum with regular live performances across the Netherlands.

A couple of years later, the band recruited Richard Clarke on guitar and keyboards, further enriching their sound.

The band began working on demos for a second album, but the process eventually led them to take a step back. Balancing domestic life with the demands of the band was becoming a struggle and took the fun out of it for them, and they ultimately went on an amicable, indefinite hiatus.

While the second album was never completed, the demos can still be unearthed in the darker corners of the internet—for those willing to get thier hands dirty and dig deep enough.
